The Turned & Thrown Series

This project explores the relationship between handmade craft and industrialised production through a paired collection of ceramic and wooden bowls. Slip cast ceramic forms glazed in pink and green with marbled slip reference the precision and repeatability of mass produced objects while hand turned wooden bowls celebrate variation and the imperfect beauty of one off making.

The two approaches come together in a hybrid form with ceramic bowls finished with hand turned wooden lids. Together the pieces create a quiet conversation between industry and craft and consider how value and individuality are understood in contemporary making.
