The collaborative craftscapes project focused on chairs made from repurposed scaffolding boards. Designed to be modular, sustainable, and produced with minimal waste, these chairs act as canvases for artists from different disciplines. Through collaboration, Walton reintroduces ornamentation, surface, and creative expression into functional furniture, pushing back against minimalist and capitalist design norms that prioritise uniformity over individuality. Using reclaimed timber and digital fabrication processes, the chairs are designed as flat-pack forms to reduce shipping emissions. Precision CNC machining allows the pieces to slot together seamlessly without the use of screws or tools, extending the lifecycle of scaffolding boards through thoughtful intervention while maintaining accessibility and practicality. By embedding original artwork into functional furniture, she offers a pragmatic way for people to live with and invest in art, particularly within limited domestic space or budget. Each piece is produced in small runs, resulting in unique works that balance utility, collaboration, and authorship.
